Fine gemmy crystals of extremely rare laurentthomasite from the type locality Beravina, Betroka, Madagascar. Laurentthomasite is one of the rarest gem minerals on Earth. It was found in a limited number just in one locality - the type locality Beravina and pieces like this have always been scarce. The laurentthomasite is a magnesium-potassium cyclosilicate, approved by the IMA in 2019. The mineral carries the name of its discoverer - Laurent Thomas, a well known geologist, prospector and mineral dealer, working mainly in Madagascar. This piece displays a cool dichroism: rich ocean-blue color viewed from the front and yellow-green seen from the side (with a back light). The origin of dichroism lies in the presence of the transition metal ions Fe2+ and Fe3+. The stepped crystals are gem with flat lustrous faces which is uncommon. It has hardness 6 on Mohs scale. In excellent condition. On acrylic base.
Superb – it is a chance to have such gem rarity!
