A marvelous specimen of very rare garnet var. grossular with green phantoms from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The grossular crystals to 2mm are transparent and gem with pale green cores which are result of chromium, and surrounded by transparent colorless areas. The crystals have rhombic dodecahedral sharp crystallization and glassy luster. Some partial red coating gives a good contrast. The green cored garnets are among the most unusual and rare Jeffrey mine garnets. This was mined a long time ago - the mine is closed now. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. Some contacts. On acrylic base.

Fascinating!
